Fun Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn Themed Photo Shoot

My little boy turns 5-years-old today!  I cannot believe how fast the years have flown by!  Every year just keeps getting better and better.  I can’t wait to see what this year holds for us!

Most of you know that I’m a full-time photographer.  That doesn’t leave me very much time and energy to plan my own family shoots, but I was determined to do something really special this year for him.  He is one of the most precious miracles in my life, and I really wanted to do a photo shoot that would capture who he is.  He loves the outdoors and is so curious about everything around him.  He’s adventurous and very energetic.  He loves getting dirty and jumping into lakes.  He’s definitely all boy.

So, the fun theme I decided to go with was…Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn!

I envisioned it all in my head.  We could use a raft, a cute suspender outfit, a straw hat, and even his new baby turtles.  Yeah.  Baby turtles.  I was so excited to make this shoot happen, even in the middle of my busy season.

Thankfully I was able to enlist the help of my husband and my parents.  My dad and hubby put together a raft and made it look as real as they could.  You’re going to love it when you see it in the photos!  My dad also rigged up a fishing pole and fish.  My mom put together the sail.  I put together the outfit.  My parents live on a lake so we were able to do the photos right in their “backyard”.  It was great!  We were in shallow water the entire time so my little guy would be safe.  My hubby was also standing in the water right out of my camera view.

I am so thrilled with how the photos came out!  I love how his joy and curiosity comes out in so many of the images, yet we were also able to capture some somber ones as well.  He was such a dream on the shoot.  He did absolutely everything we asked him to do.  I feel so extremely blessed to be able to call this little boy mine.  God has been so good to our family, and we thank him every day for little Michael.

By the way, he named his turtles Betsy Clifford and Clifford Betsy.  They like to eat mealworms, dragonflies, and fish.

Inspiration Through Art – Kade

I shared Sophie’s pictures and story with you a few days ago.  Now it’s time to share her brother’s photos and story.  Meet the sweet and loveable Kade!

“Kade James was born on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2005, and is 7 years old now. Only born about a week early there was no reason for concern.  The birth did have some complications of his heart rate dropping.  Later it was determined that it was due to the abnormally short umbilical cord.  Kade was diagnosed with Translocation Mosaic Downs Syndrome when he turned one.  This is a rare form of the disorder and in most cases can range in mild to severe delays.  We were told that he would need many tests to check his heart, organs, eyes and ears.  Thankfully he has been blessed with wonderful health.  A hole in his heart repaired itself by his second birthday.  He has perfect sight and hearing and all other tests have come up negative.  The first signs of developmental delays were when he could not walk or crawl.  After realizing he had relaxed muscle tone we knew this was likely due to a disability.  Club feet require him to wear insoles in his shoes, and he receives Physical and Speech Therapy.  Kade has not let DS affect his ability to do everything, and he keeps up with his two older brothers very well.  Kade is also the proud and protective brother of two younger sisters which he loves and adores.  He still has speech and language delays but knows sign language and is learning French as well.  His favorite hobbies include fishing and horse therapy.  We are excited that he will be advancing to First Grade in his mainstream school with his peers in the fall.  Kade has changed our family and the entire outlook on life.  We finally realize to appreciate the little things in life.”

Bemidji 6 month photos

Pictures of cute kiddos was the business of the day.  My agenda with this family was 6 month photos of their newest little addition, and then pictures of all three kids together.  This mom has style!  Not only did she find adorable things on etsy, but she knew how to coordinate all of them together.  You’re going to love the outfits and accessories she used.  I should’ve taken pictures of her interior decorating skills as well.  She’s just bubbling with talent.

Neumann Family Session in Bemidji

The thing that sticks out about this session was that we had 4 generations of girls!  So cool!  I remember having a picture taken of me with my mom, her mom, and her mom’s mom.  That’s a lot of moms!  haha  Anyways, it was such a special picture to have.  I have it framed right now on my bookcase.

So the two little girls you see in the pictures below are actually cousins.  Crazy thing is they were born on the same day!  Their due dates weren’t even close, so it’s just crazy how it happened!  They act like sisters though.  They’re super cute.

Litte Benjamin

This was a fun session.  Benjamin had turned one and his mom decided to contacted me to take photos.  I’m never sure if the child will be able to walk or not at this age, but Benjamin was a little older.  He was definitely able to walk.  When I was going through all the photos I realized he was moving in about 80% of them.  Little boys have SO much energy and curiousity!  It’s fun to capture them in ways that reveal their personality.
